• Assess Risk in Layers

    October 23, 2018
  • As a provider of safety and security solutions, the safety of our children has been a core concern and topic of conversation. In observance of Safe School’s Week, we are focused on providing resourceful information, in an effort to help make schools become a safer place.

    ASSESSING RISK IN LAYERS

Safeguarding education campuses can be a daunting task. Where do you begin? How do you know if you have the right technology for your school? At ESCO, we understand that not every school is a one-size-fits-all solution. Below are steps you can take to better understand where your needs are and the ways you can improve processes and procedures.

    Step 1: Technology Checklist

What technology does your school utilize? Consider working closely with your IT department to help identify which technology your school incorporates as part of the school’s security efforts. Together, you can help identify if the technology functions, if it provides the level of security your school desires, and how the technology would function in the event of an emergency.

    Step 2: People and Procedures

Does your school system have a defined group of people and procedural processes, should a life-threatening event or act of violence occur?  How often is this group trained and how long has it been since the procedures have been reviewed? Staying up to date with training and procedures can help keep your school a safer place!

Step 3: Stages of Security Assessment

As an endorsing integrator for PASS (Partner Alliance for Safer Schools), we would like to share this resource guide provided by PASS. This guide showcases the major components of a security assessment through a layered and tiered approach in addressing potential security threats and concerns.
